Events and Media Manager Michael Collier

Michael Collier | 11 November 2008

Sexy Mike

Mike was previously the President until by-elections were held whereas he stepped down as he felt he was not fulfilling what was required of the position. Instead he now oversees the events and services that he set out to provide upon establishing the society and we appriciate his imput.

Hey, I’m Mike and I am the Engineering Society Events and Media Manager for 08/09. I co-founded the society with the other exec members in May 08 when we felt that there wasn’t enough sense of community in the department, from there we decided to extend our availability to all students who have an interest and it seems a lot of you do! I am currently in my second year at Lancaster studying Mechatronic Engineering BEng and I love it!! For those of you who are not aware, the course is basically half Mechanical Engineering, and half Electrical Engineering with prospects in multi-discipline environments such as Robotics.  My position as Events and Media Manager denotes that I will manage both the website and facebook group, together with producing posters and other visual media.  Also I am responsible for organising competitions, trips and events that are not covered under ‘social’ sec.

Outside of the society you will find me on MSN, Facebook, drunk or sleep.. What else in life could be better?

Vice President Ben Wrench

Michael Collier |

Benny Boy Wench

Ben joined the exec after by-elections held 6th November 08. Since then he has integrated well and we wish him a happy time with us, and look forward to his experienced input.

Hey all, my name’s Ben and I’m the newly elected Vice President. This means if our President is too busy you can come grab me with anything you want to talk about – from telling us how great we are to telling us to grow up! This is my first year at Lancaster Uni but I leapt in on the 2nd year of a Nuclear Engineering MEng.Being the grand age of 26 I’m technically a mature student but manage to have all the fun of a true Fresher. I spent the 8 years since doing A Levels working at Devonport Dockyard in Plymouth playing with submarines, it was a fabulous and interesting job which lead me to coming here to learn more about the nuclear world. I hope to be able to use my experience and contacts to help this society grow and put interested members in touch with relevant people.

When I’m not scratching my head over the days lectures I’m playing hockey, watching football, dreaming of snowboarding or following the Red Sox. Life is good!

President Wayne Morton

Michael Collier |

 Socialite Wayne

Wayne became President during the by-elections held  in November, he previously held the position of Vice President but it was decided that he would be a better candidate and front for the society.

WHO?

Hey all, my name is Wayne Morton. I am a twenty year old Mechanical Engineering Student here at Lancaster University. I’m currently in my second year and loving every minute of it!

POSITION?

President

RESPONSIBILITIES?

Basically my responsibilities is to keep everyone in order. I make sure that things get done and ensure that ensure there are no problems. I try to make contacts in very high places (hahahaha…sorry) meaning that when we come to organise something, we always have friends to help! Myself and Ben, Vice President, also deal with all the health and safety stuff to make sure everyone is safe and sound – otherwise, my job means I get shot by LUSU!

WHAT DO I DO?

Other than the Engineering Society, I’m really into music, mountain biking, canoeing, snowboarding, playing pool – drinking sports are brill! I also love building random rubbish! I’m currently restoring a 1972 VW Transporter (that’s a hippy van if you don’t do cars!). Finally I love going out with my mates and just generally having a fun!

WHY DID I JOIN?

I joined and helped Mike set up to Society because I was shocked there wasn’t one already! The Society is all about getting together with like minded people and just have some fun, taking a break from all the work and meeting some of the best friends ever.
